Cape May County,
New Jersey
Frommer’s and Yahoo Choose the Region as an “It”
Destination
Triskaidekaphobia? Not in
Southern New Jersey! Frommer’s, a New Jersey
based travel guide publisher, recently named
some of the shore towns along the southern
stretch of the Garden State Parkway as one of
their 13 choices for vacation destinations –
worldwide, that is - for 2008.
Then, Yahoo listed several
local destinations as “Movers & Shakers” because
of dramatic increases in web traffic on the
Yahoo Travel Guide site. Finally, people in the
travel business are figuring out what most of us
have known just about forever – this is a great
place to vacation! Hello!
“Take the last exit to
discover charming boardwalk towns "down the
shore" including Cape May, Ocean City, and
Wildwood,” Frommer’s writers said. “Cape May's
laid back Victorian charm, with Sunset Beach,
bird sanctuary, and beautiful B&Bs is minutes
(and generations) away from Wildwood's
celebration of post-WWII, go-go '50s-style
architecture, with proud artificial palm trees
and vintage neon signs.”
The article also noted that
the area has vineyards, alpaca farms and, of
course, salt water taffy that originated in
Atlantic City. Even Lucy the Elephant got a
mention as still standing on the beach in
Margate.
Ocean City was the second
place finisher on the Yahoo site, jumping an
amazing 115 spots, while Wildwood was right
there in the No. 4 spot – and that’s from the
17,000 destinations with travel pages on Yahoo.
Not too shabby, as they say.
Each year, Frommer's
editorial staff ferrets out places around the
world that are worthy of a traveler's attention.
A location is selected for what it has to offer
or simply the fact that it often falls under the
radar and deserves a little attention.
The other 12 places, in no
particular order according to Frommer’s, are
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; New Orleans; the
American Whiskey Trail from Mount Vernon,
Virginia, through Tennessee, Kentucky and
Pennsylvania; Denver; Essaouira, Morocco;
Cardiff, Wales; St. Lucia; Quito, Ecuador;
Romania; Seoul, South Korea; Bras d'Or Lakes,
Nova Scotia and Kosrae, Micronesia.
